Spay It Forward Program

A program created to help the low-income residents of Madison and Oglethorpe Counties alter their animals during periods of financial hardship. Need Assistance? See below.

About the Program:

The Spay It Forward program’s goal is to provide discounts or free spay/neuter to county residents who can not afford spay/neuter. The program came about in 2020 after the shelter received its first ever spay/neuter grant from The Bissell Pet Foundation. The grant provided 800 free spay/neuter surgeries to underserved residents in both Madison and Oglethorpe Counties in 2019. As 2019 came to an end we realized there was still a great need to be met. So, we came up with this program to help our low-income citizens or those facing financial hardships. Thanks to an extremely generous donor we were able to fund the Spay It Forward Program for much of 2020. We are still seeking donations to keep it ongoing and we do ask that applicants donate what they can on the day of surgery, even $1 helps to continue to fund more surgeries.  By assisting those in need we help reduce the number of unwanted puppies and kittens born into our area, which simply put, has more pets than homes in it already. MOAS takes in approximately 3,000 homeless animals each year and we know the only way to help reduce this and to reduce euthanasia in shelters is by altering the most at-risk animal populations.
